Superintendent’s Report:
a. State Superintendent Dr. Michael rice’s visit b. Creative teaching and learning center c. legislative/grassroots Renovations are taking place at the Administration building that is why our meeting and Board Meetings will be held at the Freshman Center. Dr. Rice’s visit went well and covered many aspects of RPS , including the new Creative teaching and learning center and Spanish immersion. He said the Rockford is the future of public education. Dr. Shibler has contacted the Kent County Health Dept. about EEE, none has been found in Kent county so no need to change anything at this time but practice common sense and use DEET and wear long sleeves and pants at dusk events. Dr. Shibler is on an EPA board for PFAS clean up. Clean up has begun along the White Pine Trail where they will move dirt, trees , etc to a safe location. Legislative news is looking good, continuing in a good direction with budget. We will find out what legislature does this week with the budget.
4. Curriculum Report: Mike Ramm a. Teaching and learning supports (literacy coordinator, instructional coaches, social-emotional coaches)
Student achievement is on the uptick in every school even though 16 snow days last year vs our co-piers. Elementary’s have adopted literacy blocks while the high school is working on common ground curriculum. Also, focusing on instruction or delivery of content & focus areas. Instructional coaches are provided for whole buildings.Focused leadership helping .Productive collaboration - building in protocols in student learning. All of the above being based on research. This years Moto being Power of us , RPS is focused on continuous improvement . 5. Finance Report: Mike Cuneo
Bond Issues- Admin building Reno continues, next summer parking lot updated. NRMS - internal updated but not done but for now just working on weekends and nights. Roof work to start up in summer. Ne elementary coming to fruition in fall of 2023. Designing and bids to be starting soon.Next summer reconfiguring of the entrance of the TED will start. Turf will be replaced and concessions and visitor bathrooms will be added. Lighting on the Harv (upper turf field) will be added. A storage container will be built to store band equipment which will free up classrooms for future STEAM classes. Next phase will include technologies , new laptops, etc.
6. Human resources : Korie Wilson
RPS hired new staff over the summer including 2 new elementary principals, athletic dept. has 2 new leaders, plus 37 new staff throughout the district.
7. ISAC member issues:
Sports boosters having fund raiser at The Haunt Sunday, October 13th. In need of 50 volunteers to dress up and work, $5 a head will be donated to sports boosters from this event. Can pre buy tickets online for discounted price. Sports boosters will also be holding their annual corn hole event in February. They will be trying to set a world record for largest corn hole event. New athletic director unifying team uniforms across the board to present a united front throughout Rockford.
