January ISAC
Superintendents report:
a. RAMS XI-Focus groups are currently meeting. These groups provide input and direction. Surveys are then formed from these groups and sent to parents . RAMS XI will be out in January 2021 and cover the 8 categories,and set a blue print for continuous improvements. RAMS- Rams action model for Success.
b. College and Career night at the High School was a huge success, with a large turn out . Included are colleges to speak with and skilled trades with hands on interaction.
c. legislative/grassroots- Pushing hard for MMC (Michigan merit curriculum) requirements to lighten up. Not weakening just providing for more opportunities. Senate bills 600 & 601 relax requirements. Also, 3rd grade reading retention if not reading at grade level.Studies have found that retention often doesn't work in the benefit of the student. RPS policy is that this is a parent decission.
Curriculum report:
a. Curriculum initiatives- DK-5 classrooms in assessing phase. Identifying priority standards and at which what grade level they should happen in. Testing will be happening soon- MSTEP, MME, etc. With the bond monies a new elementary school will be built. Being ready in the Fall of 2023. Planning has begun, by visiting other districts and looking at new ideas. All learning environments at all elementary schools will be updated based on learnings. Redistricting comes later mostly happening on the west side of the district. Also adding 18 classrooms to NRMS.
Finance report:
a. 2018-2019 Unqualified Financial Audit- found nothing wrong and RPS received the highest qualification it could get. Presenting to the school board next meeting.Report online after presentation. RPS fund balance is below the 10% (at 7.1%) where it should be but on the way there. Up from cost of living increase.
Human Resources:
a. Initiatives-working on attracting and retaining teachers. Going to Chicago area job fair and GVSU, MSU, MI job fair. Title 2 added additional rescources for the year. Which will be used as signing bonuses or something similar to be and remain competitive . 2018/19 hired 50 new people, looks like it will be similar this year. Contracts expire this year. Monday, August 24th start of next school year.
REF-grant reading under progress. March is The Taste at Blyfield Hills CC, donor wall going up in steps, and developing healthy kids January 28th.
