INTER-SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL 2/26/2020 Laura Featherston, Board of Ed. Reported the Board is currently in the process of approving bond issues. We are currently buying new school buses. Board meetings are held the 2nd & 4th Monday’s of each month, and are open to the public. The meetings on the 2nd, are a study session, where as meetings on the 4th, are when the Board votes on actions. Dr. Shibler, Superintendent, gave his report on current use of snow days. At this point we had only used 1 of the 6 days allowed, and an additional 3 more possible if needed. (Obviously this preceded the COVID-19)! The final calendar for 2020-2021 has been established. 1st day of school will be August 24, 2020. We will have the Friday and Monday off of Labor Day Weekend. Mid March, RAMS 11 will be out. Please keep an eye out for a survey you can participate in. Focus Groups have taken place with Students, Staff, Parents, and Community Members. Administration will take all results from the Focus Groups and the Survey into consideration to develop The RAMS (Rockford Action Model of Success) 11 to begin 1/2021. We will wrap up RAMS 10 12/2020. Mike Ramm, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, spoke of the upcoming testing that will be taking place this spring: Freshman will take the PSAT, need 95% proficiency, Sophomore will take the SAT, Juniors will take the SAT, Work Keys, Science & Social Studies M Step. Testing guidelines require that there be 2 adults in testing rooms for SAT, where as PSAT requires 1 adult per every 30 students. Our Guidance Counselors reported on the March Madness Challenge with Juniors Test Prep. via Khan Academy. Per Holly Normington, we are currently busy wrapping up scheduling for next year. Taking into consideration electives, math placements, mental health classes including depression and anxiety, focusing on positive digital footprint. We have recently hired David Jenga, a full time Mental Health liaison to work in all of our buildings. Rachel Kruze (10th-12th) and Holly (9th) will work on the Master Schedule. They will be meeting with all Juniors in the Creative Teaching and Learning Center to finalize senior classes, internships, careers, military, KCTC, etc. Mike Cuneo, Assistant Superintendent of Finance, said we are completing improvements using the last bond monies. ALL libraries/media centers will be renovated into “active learning” via collaborative measures. We also have reserved money from the last bond issue to open another TLC, location is unknown as of now. We have allocated $15M for new furniture, district wide, $18M for improvements of NRMS, $8M for the FC. Total of last bond monies was $185M. Mike informed us the new Elementary near Saddle Ridge has wetlands, which will be used for outdoor education. He reminded us RGW has 10 acres behind building. We have security bullet proof on all lower level glass. We will be focusing on storage for winter accessories, such as snow gear, boots, etc. The Governors budget recently came out, focusing on Special Ed funding of 28-30%. The Revenue Consensus Conference came out in January, we need by May. Legislative have budget by June 1st, we adopt by June 30th. She will bond for the roads, as she has previously mentioned. Just a few updates currently being made include a new swim board at the HS pool by spring break, remodeling of Central Office including a new roof, and new furniture since this hasn’t been updated since 1993.
